After our early dash to get to Skaftafell in time for the start of the hike - arriving pretty much bang on 9am - we then waited around while everyone doing the hike was fitted with crampons. These odd metal spikey things fitted to the bottom of our shoes and allowed us to walk properly while on the glacier. We would be doing a two hour hike around the Svínafellsjökull tongue of Vatnajökull.
